May I will graduate with my Bachelor’s Degree in Public Service/Public Policy
and I am excited to see what doors open now that I have a degree. I was able to
advance within my current department without the required degree because I was
able to use time on the job in lieu of a degree. Also, most of my co-workers do
not have 4 year degree and only a couple have a 2 year degree.
My
company emails new job posting to all employees company email each Thursday. I
usually scan through each job posting to see what the requirements and pay are
for each job. All job postings that are comparable to my current salary required
at least a 4 year degree and several years of experience. These requirements have
deterred me for applying in the past but I plan to start applying for a new job
within the next few months.
It sounds like you have a clear idea of how to progress and continue on your journey to success. I have similar thoughts myself and I am glad that I am not the only one with a similar experience. I graduate next semester and I am very excited to see what the future holds for me! Great post thanks for your thoughts!!
ReplyDeleteKristina,
ReplyDeleteThat's so exciting! I'm sure it's a little nerve wracking to be moving on like that, but it sounds like you're going about it in a smart way. Best of luck!
Kristina,
ReplyDeleteLooking for new opportunities is something that will help you get to a position to where you'd like to be, as you stated a management role will not be available until someone vacates their current position. And just always checking different job announcements is a good thing, knowing your worth and the set of skills you have along with your education and work experience. Good luck.
Hi Kristina!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel. Sometimes it can be very comfortable to stay in the same place, but it can be discouraging when you know there isn't room to grow. So it's great that you're looking to expand your roots elsewhere. Don't allow the job posts to deter you from applying. Often times it is we who disqualify ourselves from certain opportunities. I was once told to let HR determine my qualification, we can often be too critical of ourselves.
Hi Kristina,
ReplyDeleteAs others have mentioned it appears that recognizing when you have outgrown something, including an area of work is the key to finding new opportunities. The fact that you are attending career fairs and actively seeking what else is available will surely lead to something more exciting and hopefully more fitting as you graduate with your Bachelor's Degree.
Good luck with the job searching and all future endeavors.
